HUMAN RIGHTS
The Human Rights Code is a law that recognizes the dignity and worth of every person. The Code gives every person the right to equal treatment and equal opportunities in five social areas.
- Employment
- Housing
- Goods, Services and Facilities
- Contracts
- Membership in trade and vocational associations
The Code protects people from being discriminated against or harassed based on the following grounds
- Race, Colour, Ancestry or Place of Origin
- Citizenship, Creed, or Ethnic Origin
- Age, Family Status or Marital Status
- Disability
- Sex, including Sexual Harassment, and Pregnancy
- Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation
- Receipt of Public Assistance (only to claims about housing)
- Record of Offences (only to claims about employment)
